"Life in all its fullness" through our RE curriculum - EYFS

This term the children have been following the Understanding Christianity unit of Salvation, learning about the Easter story. Week by week we have learned about, read and discussed a different part of the story. Part of living "life in all its fullness" is linking our learning to our real lives. When we learned about Good Friday and the symbolism of a hot cross bun, the children were all able to see and taste a hot cross bun. Some of them had never tried them before. The key question linked to our unit of work is "Why do Christians put a cross in an Easter garden?" so after our input on this, children gathered resources from our outdoor area and made their own Easter garden which is now on display in our Spiritual Area for everyone in school to see. These real life experiences have really helped to embed the learning taking place and children are able to talk confidently about parts of the Easter story and why it is such an important time for Christians.

"Life in all its fullness" through our RE curriculum - Y1/2

In order for our children to live "life in all its fullness", it is important that they understand that people hold different beliefs. Y1/2 recently went on a trip to Faizan E Madina Mosque in Peterborough, where they were able to experience first hand a place of worship none of them had visited before. They were able to live out their prior learning about customs such as removing their shoes before entering, and were spoken to about the Five Pillars of Islam which enhanced their previous learning in school. The children now have a better understanding of how Muslims worship and its importance within their everyday lives.
